Outbound SMS Trunk Creation and Configuration¶
Outbound SMS traffic is delivered via DIDWW’s high-capacity, global platform, directly peered with a range of selected incumbent local exchange carriers. Configuration, management and monitoring of outbound SMS trunks is available through the DIDWW User Panel. To set up an Outbound SMS Trunk, navigate to the Trunks section and choose SMS OUT.
To create a new outbound trunk, select and a window with the required Outbound Trunk settings will be opened (Fig. 2). The general configuration parameters are:
- Friendly name
The friendly name of the trunk;
- Callback URL
The server’s address for posting SMS delivery notifications;
- Allowed IP address
IP addresses from which access to the API is allowed in the format (IPv4|IPv6)[/mask];
After you whitelist an IP address(es), you can only access the API, if you are connecting from a whitelisted IP address. Any access attempts from other IPs will be blocked. This is a security tool that you can use to help prevent malicious activity on your account.

The Source Address Settings define which DID number(s) may be used as a sender ID for the outbound SMS trunk. These DID numbers appear as the CLI to the recipient of the SMS. The “allowed” sender IDs may be selected from the available DID numbers acquired from DIDWW, and a filter is provided to enable users to list specific DIDs. By default, all DID numbers in the customer’s account may be used as the sender ID on outbound trunks (Fig. 3).
Once the outbound SMS trunk has been created, the credentials for that trunk may be viewed by clicking on the icon next to the Credentials details (Fig. 4).
The button allows the user to send these SMS Credentials to a system administrator for configuration of the Outbound SMS Trunk (Fig. 5). There is an option to view or regenerate the SIP trunk password by clicking on the icon next to the Password field.
