# Number billing

Number billing explains how DID numbers are charged, from purchase through renewal. It covers setup fees, monthly fees,
billing periods, incoming rates, and how the **Channels Included** option affects the DID number price.

A DID number can incur three kinds of charges. The setup fee (NRC) is charged once at purchase. The monthly fee (MRC) is
charged for each billing period. Usage charges, such as incoming call rates and metered capacity, apply only when the
DID number receives traffic.

Some DID numbers also need Capacity to receive inbound calls. Capacity can be included with the DID number or billed
separately. See [Capacity billing](capacity/capacity-billing.html). All charges are in USD and are deducted from the
prepaid account balance. For current prices, see [Download pricelists](buy-numbers/download-pricelists.html).

## Charge summary

| Charge | Type | When it is charged | Price depends on |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Setup fee (NRC) | One-time | When the DID number is purchased | Country, number type, and DID group |
| Monthly fee (MRC) | Recurring | At purchase and at each renewal, for the full billing period | Country, number type, DID group, and included channels |
| Incoming call rate | Usage | Per minute of each inbound call | Number type, DID group, and the origin of the call |
| Inbound SMS rate | Usage | Per inbound SMS message | DID group and the sender's number prefix and length |
| Flat-rate channels | One-time and recurring | Setup fee at purchase, then a monthly fee per channel | Capacity pool |
| Metered capacity | Usage | Per minute of each inbound call that uses metered channels | Capacity pool |

## How numbers are billed

DID numbers are recurring services. During purchase, DIDWW shows the one-time setup fee (NRC), monthly fee (MRC),
selected billing period, selected channel option, and any incoming rates before checkout.

Setup fees and monthly fees are flat-rate charges. Usage charges, such as incoming rates and metered capacity, are
billed separately when the DID number receives traffic. The exact price of a DID number can depend on the country,
number type, selected DID group, quantity, billing period, and selected **Channels Included** option.

[My Numbers billing fields](my-numbers/my-numbers-reference.html#my-numbers-billing-fields).

## Setup fee and monthly fee

Setup fee (NRC) and monthly fee (MRC) are shown separately so the first order total and the recurring renewal cost are
clear.

The setup fee (NRC) is a one-time flat-rate charge applied when the DID number is purchased.

The monthly fee (MRC) is the recurring flat-rate monthly price of the DID number.

## Billing period

The billing period is selected when the DID number is purchased. It determines the length of the service period and the
amount charged for the recurring portion of the order.

Longer billing periods combine several months of the monthly fee into one order. For example, if a semi-annual billing
period is selected, the recurring charge is calculated as:

`Monthly fee × 6 months`

The recurring amount is charged for the full selected billing period. For example, if a DID number has an MRC of USD
2.00 and a 3-month billing period is selected, the recurring portion of the order is USD 6.00 per DID number before
taxes and any other charges.

Before payment, the order total shows the setup fee, the monthly fee for the selected billing period, VAT, and the
amount that will be deducted from the account balance. See [How to buy numbers](buy-numbers/how-to-buy.html).

Note

With prorated billing, the monthly fee is charged only for the number of service days included in the order, instead of
a full billing period. Prorated DID number billing is available through the API, but this feature is not enabled by
default. To enable prorated billing for your DIDWW account, contact
[customer.care@didww.com](mailto:customer.care%40didww.com). Prorated billing does not apply to DID numbers purchased
via the User Panel. For API details, see [Create
Order](../api3/2026-04-16/inventory-resources/order/create-order.html#orders-v34-create-order).

## Channels included

The **Channels Included** option can affect the DID number price shown during purchase.

Some DID numbers can be purchased with included voice channels. Depending on the selected DID group, the available
options can include **0 channels** or **2 channels**.

The **2 channels** option includes two included voice channels in the DID number service. This option usually has a
higher monthly fee than **0 channels**.

The **0 channels** option does not include dedicated inbound voice channels in the DID number service. After purchase,
inbound call delivery still depends on additional capacity configuration.

Changing the selected channel option can affect the monthly fee.

After purchase, supported DID numbers can switch between supported **Channels Included** options. The change applies to
the next billing cycle unless the DID number is renewed immediately for the selected period. See [Change next capacity
mode](my-numbers/how-to-guides/change-next-capacity-mode.html#change-next-capacity-mode).

For capacity configuration and channel allocation details, see [Capacity](capacity/index.html).

### Numbers with no included channels

A DID number with no included channels (**DID+0**) cannot receive calls until Capacity is assigned. The following
options are available:

| Option | Billing |
| --- | --- |
| [Pay-per-minute channels](capacity/pay-per-minute-channels.html) | Charged per minute of inbound calls. No setup or monthly fees. A DID number purchased with this option is added to a pay-per-minute Capacity group with 100 channels. |
| [Flat-rate channels](capacity/flat-rate-channels.html) | A setup fee and a fixed monthly fee per channel. Channels are assigned directly to one DID number as dedicated channels. |
| [Capacity group](capacity/capacity-groups.html) | Flat-rate channels shared by all DID numbers in the group. Billed the same way as flat-rate channels. |
| [Hybrid capacity](capacity/capacity-reference.html#capacity-hybrid-combinations) | Flat-rate channels handle expected traffic, and pay-per-minute channels handle overflow. The flat-rate channels are billed monthly, and only overflow minutes are charged per minute. |

For prices, examples, and prorated flat-rate charges, see [Capacity billing](capacity/capacity-billing.html). For how
DIDWW chooses which Capacity to use, see [How capacity works](capacity/how-capacity-works.html).

## Orders, payments, and invoices

Number billing is reflected in several billing records, which are created at different times:

1. Purchasing a new DID number creates an order.
2. Renewals and billable service changes do not create an order. They are deducted directly from the prepaid balance.
3. A monthly invoice, issued on the first day of the following month, summarises all billable activity.

If the balance is insufficient, funds must be added before the transaction can complete. Adding funds creates a payment
record and, for purchases, a receipt.

For order history, see [Orders](../billing/billing/orders.html#billing-history-orders). For payment history, see
[Payments](../billing/billing/payments.html#billing-history-payments). For invoices and receipts, see [Invoices and
Receipts](../billing/billing-and-prices/invoices-and-receipts.html#billing-invoices-and-receipts). For adding funds
manually, see [Top Up Using Instant
Payment](../billing/payment-methods/credit-card.html#billing-add-funds-instant-payment).

## Incoming rates

Incoming rates are usage rates associated with the DID group.

If a DID number has inbound call billing, the rate is shown before purchase. This can apply to number types such as
Toll-free, Shared Cost, or UIFN.

If a DID number has inbound SMS billing, the inbound SMS rate is also shown before purchase.

Incoming rates are usage-based charges. They are charged only when the DID number receives inbound calls or inbound SMS
traffic.

Current rates can vary depending on the country, number type, DID group, selected channel option, and supported
services. To review current pricing outside the purchase flow, see [Download
pricelists](buy-numbers/download-pricelists.html).

### Incoming rates and capacity charges

Two different usage charges can apply to inbound calls:

- An **incoming call rate** belongs to the number type. It applies to number types where the number owner pays all or part of the cost of inbound calls, such as Toll-free, UIFN, and Shared Cost numbers. See [Special number types](#phone-numbers-number-billing-special-types).
- A **metered capacity** charge belongs to the Capacity used to receive the call. It applies when the call uses pay-per-minute channels. See [Pay-per-minute channels](capacity/pay-per-minute-channels.html).

Toll-free, UIFN, and Shared Cost numbers include dedicated channels free of charge, so the usage charge for these calls
is the incoming call rate. No metered capacity charge applies. Other number types usually have no incoming call rate. If
such a number uses pay-per-minute channels, the metered capacity rate is charged per minute instead.

Inbound calls with usage charges require a positive account balance. To avoid service interruption, enable automatic
top-ups. See [Manage Auto-Charge Settings](../billing/payment-methods/credit-card.html#billing-manage-autocharge).

### Inbound SMS charges

Inbound SMS is charged separately from calls, per message. The rate depends on the DID group and on the sender's number
prefix and length. Not every DID number supports inbound SMS. Inbound SMS also requires a positive account balance.

For current SMS rates, see [Download pricelists](buy-numbers/download-pricelists.html).

### Special number types

Some number types are billed differently from local, national, and mobile numbers because the number owner pays all or
part of the cost of inbound calls. These are Toll-free, UIFN, and Shared Cost numbers. Each type has an incoming call
rate and includes dedicated channels free of charge.

#### Toll-free

Callers do not pay to call a toll-free number. The number owner pays an incoming call rate for each minute of inbound
calls.

The rate depends on the origin of the call, such as the caller's line type (fixed or mobile) and country. All applicable
rates are shown before purchase. Some toll-free numbers also support inbound SMS, which is charged per message.

Toll-free numbers include 300 dedicated channels free of charge. Additional channels can be requested from
[customer.care@didww.com](mailto:customer.care%40didww.com). Setup and monthly fees work the same way as for other DID
numbers.

#### UIFN

A Universal International Freephone Number (UIFN) is a single toll-free number that can be reached from multiple
countries. Callers do not pay, and the number owner pays an incoming call rate for each minute of inbound calls.

The rate depends on the country the call comes from and the caller's line type. Setup and monthly fees are charged for
the UIFN and for each enabled country. UIFN numbers have higher setup fees than other number types, require
registration, and are activated by [sales@didww.com](mailto:sales%40didww.com) after the order is completed.

UIFN numbers include 300 dedicated channels free of charge. For how callers dial a UIFN from each country, see
[Universal International Freephone Number (UIFN) Dialing
Format](../voice/inbound-trunks/technical-data/uifndialscheme.html).

#### Shared Cost

The cost of a call to a Shared Cost number is shared between the caller and the number owner. The caller pays part of
the call cost, and the number owner pays an incoming call rate for each minute of inbound calls.

The incoming call rate depends on the country and on the origin of the call, such as the caller's line type (fixed or
mobile). In some countries, the number owner's rate is USD 0.00. All applicable rates are shown before purchase. Inbound
SMS is not available on all Shared Cost numbers, so check the supported features before purchase.

Shared Cost numbers include 300 dedicated channels free of charge. Additional channels can be requested from
[customer.care@didww.com](mailto:customer.care%40didww.com). Setup and monthly fees work the same way as for other DID
numbers, and registration may be required depending on the country.

## Example

The following example uses sample values only. Use the prices shown during purchase or in the DIDWW pricelists for
actual calculations.

Example: first-month charges for a DID number with metered capacity

A DID number is purchased with no included channels and pay-per-minute capacity:

- Setup fee: USD 1.00, charged once
- Monthly fee: USD 1.20 × 3-month billing period = USD 3.60
- First order total: USD 1.00 + USD 3.60 = **USD 4.60**

During the first month, the number receives 1,000 minutes of inbound calls at a metered capacity rate of USD 0.01 per
minute:

- Metered capacity: USD 0.01 × 1,000 = **USD 10.00**

Total charged in the first month: USD 4.60 + USD 10.00 = **USD 14.60** before taxes. The next renewal is due after the
3-month billing period ends.

The same calls to a toll-free number with an incoming call rate of USD 0.029 per minute would cost USD 0.029 × 1,000 =
**USD 29.00**, with no capacity charge.

## After purchase

After a DID number is purchased, its billing information includes the renewal price, expiry date, billing period, and
billing cycles left.

Billing cycles left can only be changed after purchase, not during checkout. For the related fields, see [My Numbers
billing fields](my-numbers/my-numbers-reference.html#my-numbers-billing-fields).

For renewal and lifecycle tasks, see [Renew a number](my-numbers/how-to-guides/renew-number.html), [Remove a
number](my-numbers/how-to-guides/remove-number.html), and [Restore a
number](my-numbers/how-to-guides/restore-number.html).
