# Verification methods

Choose SMS or phone call when you [start a
verification](../api-reference/start-verification.html#otp-verification-api-start). Set the method with the
`delivery_method` field. Both methods
deliver a one-time code that the user reports to your application.

## Available methods

**SMS**

Send a one-time code in a text message. Use this familiar code-entry flow with
localized SMS templates.

**Phone Call**

Place a call that reads a one-time code aloud. Use this method when SMS is unavailable
or for landline numbers.
